Today I want to get the deck scrubbed mostly clean of all the green mossy crap that's been collecting there since long before we moved in. Going outside to check on plants after a rainshower and nearly busting my ass when my feet slipped out from under me just provided that much more inspiration to get it done. As much fun as the dumping an Oxy-clean solution on the deck and scrubbing it with a broom is, though, I've gotten approximately two square feet done (and not very well) in an hour, and really that wasn't the only thing I wanted to accomplish today. Target and your "on sale this week pressure washer", here I come.

Have you tried a harsher detergent? When I was growing up my dad had to clean the same gunge off our back deck every few years for repainting and I know he used something stronger than Oxyclean.

If you like, I can ask my mother what they used - it might spare you the $ of having to go get a pressure washer.

I'm trying to avoid using really nasty toxic shit because I just planted a bunch of flowers around the deck. I decided to get a better broom to scrub with, since the oxyclean seems to be working okay, there's just so much crap there that needs to really be scrubbed off.

I decided to put back the pressure washer and just get a really heavy-duty push broom; that and the oxy-clean seem to be doing a pretty good job if I scrub and then let the solution sit for a few minutes. I have about 1/4 of the deck done now (the worst of it is mostly clean, and the rest will need to wait until I can move the hammock and the planters), plus I get some WW activity points for the day to counterbalance the slice of chocolate pudding pie I just ate. ;)
