Haven't cracked it open yet, although I may do that once I finish making up a grocery list and retire to the hammock out back. I'll let you know, but be warned that I don't have the world's most discriminating palate when it comes to beer.

Do you think it would make good bread? That is, does it have some smoky notes, or a hint of sweetness?

An excess of hops can be used in things like rosemary, or dill, breads.

As I recall, it had some sweetness, not much hoppiness if any. Some unprocessed sugars, there was a slightly harsh aftertaste... not smoky as I recall. Actually, IMO it was an so-so dark English-style ale that might be better as bread than for sipping.
