I decided to brave the crowds and hit the DC Big Flea this afternoon. I'd forgotten that it took over both buildings in the Expo center, and only managed to get through about 3/4 of the south hall before it closed (and only had time to glance at the antique maps dealer *sniff*). Luckily it's a two-day ticket, so I can go back and hit the maps dealer and the north hall tomorrow. (If anyone wants to go with, let me know.) I ended up with a couple of pieces of vintage costume jewelry, several old postcards, including one from 1920 that seems to be reporting news of an engagement, and an April 1942 Vargas calendar page. Had a nice chat with the lady who sold me the latter item, where she mentioned that she sells a lot of Vargas and other pin-up items. Too bad I have no idea who she is or where she normally sells. Good going, me.

[livejournal.com profile] electriccat! I found a toy dealer who was selling a set of Beatles "Abbey Road" figures, around two inches high, metal I think, and the box lid is printed as the crosswalk. I so wanted to pick them up for you, but they were $200.=( It's so weird to see a bunch of toys I used to have as a child being marketed as "vintage" now. Eep. I found someone selling an old stuffed Ronald McDonald doll for $30; I had one of those when I was really, really little. Unlike my Slinky Dog though, I don't feel the need to replace the one I lost.

The really unfortunate thing is that the Expo Center is right next to Capital Yarns (or more like the other way around), and parking was such that I ended up parking in front of the yarn store. I actually came out comparatively unscathed, only buying four skeins of yarn, including two of a cream-colored alpaca boucle. I told you my "don't stockpile yarn" idea wouldn't hold up very long. I see they offer knitting classes as well, which I might have to look into a bit more. Unfortunately the fall schedule seemed heavy on "two hours in the middle of a weekday" thing, which won't really work for me since I actually have to go to work in order to be able to pay for yarn.

Oy. You had to mention there even was one there, didn't you? ;-)
