Luckily (?) I haven't seen them myself. I admit I didn't have very high hopes for it, all things considered. I hate that I was apparently right though.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! They CAN'T ruin Earthsea like that!!!! NOOO! An abomination! How do you take a classical fantasy novel, so beautifully and simply written, and ruin it all for countless generations to come?
Someone I know wrote a scifi novel that has been optioned a number of times and may actually get produced. When I talked to her about it one time, she said something along the lines of "If they make a movie, they'll be making a movie that's called the same thing as my book. I won't expect it to have anything to do with my story." It's gone from having Antonio Banderas playing the (Puerto Rican) protagonist to perhaps Brad Pitt, and the whole Earthbound part of the story may be moved from Arecibo to Australia. Recently, she said on her website "Watching Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, I was reminded that not even God could get a faithful screen adaptation." :-)
