I can't be the only one who was waiting for Kerry to finish his statement about countries pulling out of the coalition with "...like Poland". Can I?

Extremely poor form to shout over the moderator, Mr. President.

Attack of the Killer TomatoesCanadian Drugs! WTF?

Um, remember how well "Read my lips: no new taxes" worked last time?

Bush: "I guess you can say I'm a steward of the land." (Does this mean at some point you're going to freak out, set yourself on fire and pitch yourself off a cliff?)

Bush: "I really don't think your rights are being watered down." [...] "I don't think the PATRIOT Act abridges your rights at all." (I think those statements stand on their own, there is nothing at all that I can or need to say.)

Ha! "Please list three decisions you've made that you think now were wrong." *flail* "I made some mistakes in appointing people." Otherwise, I'm never wrong. Ever. Look, terrorists!

Re: Canadian drugs -- I expected that, 'cause it's the party line. (And I expected that either Bush & co. have a blind spot aligned with the weakness of tha tline, or that they would simply count on sound-bite attention spans not noticing it.)

But some of the other statements left me wondering: "How can he say that with a straight face? Does anybody believe that?"

Whoops -- two easy vulnerable points ... the first being that most of these are American drugs exported to Canada and reimported to the US (though maybe some are made in Canada at plants owned by American companies and I didn't notice). The second, of course being your, "Canadians aren't keeling over" observation.

But when I said "it's the party line", I did mean the "it's for your Safety" part. Yeah, absurd on its face to you and to me, absurd once a tiny huge background detail is pointed out to anybody who didn't get it on the first pass, but still what I've been hearing from this administration as the "reason" for dragging their feet on allowing Canadian drugs in. Repeatedly.

I expect to get annoyed, exasperated, confused by, well, any administration (of either party), but either my sensitivity to it has increased or the current administration is particularly bad about not only "repeat the lie" but "repeat the non-sequitur until people believe it". Grrrrr.

You forgot Poland!

Attack of the Killer TomatoesCanadian Drugs! WTF?

Senator Bill "I'm running for President in 2008, but it's sposed t'be a sekrit" Frist, the junior senator from my current "home" state, went on record in Nashville's pathetic paper as saying...well, exactly what he was saying was a bit unclear to me, but he seemed to be trying to draw a connection between the current generation of Canadian drugs and the seven-death cyanide-laced Tylenol scandal of, I think, 1982. WTF encore.

(Does this mean at some point you're going to freak out, set yourself on fire and pitch yourself off a cliff?)

From your mouth to God's ears. Except please let's make sure he's chained to Cheney at the time.
