F*ck Dan Savage, right in the ear.

But there's always a catch: I've never actually seen an extremely beautiful goth girl myself--most of them seem to have weight problems, which has always struck me as strangely contradictory. From the neck up, the look cultivated by goth girls seems to say, "Oh, we despair of this world and long for the sweet embrace of death!" From the neck down, their look seems to say, "I'll take the bacon cheeseburger, two orders of fries, and a Diet Coke, please."

Dan obviously needs to get out more. (link from [livejournal.com profile] ame_chan)

Well, he's been to the wrong parts of town.

More to the point the totality of his work... how to put this succintly... sucks.

As for the ear fucking... I can think of more effective ways to torment him.

I am so glad you made an icon of that picture. And yeah, what Savage said was totally obnoxious (and not true).

Dan Savage hasn't been all that worth reading in a long time.

I double-dog dare you to send him that picture. (And be careful: if I work up to the triple dog dare, ut carries legal force (http://wcco.com/water/watercooler_story_211100507.html) in at least one state.)

Two words for him, especially on this topic:

Bite me.

Love the icon, BTW. ;-)

Very strange.. I've seen beautiful goth girls of all sizes! And his correlation of thin MUST = beautiful and anything else inherently isn't is extraordinarily rude and dismissive - given the content of his letters I thought he'd be more accepting of the diversity of human life, but I guess I thought wrong :(

"F*ck Dan Savage, right in the ear."

Only if you're going to use one of Emperor Ming's bore worms!

"Dan obviously needs to get out more. "

He may just need to get more, period.

My best friend in college was, like me, a geeky, nerdy gamer guy. He was fascinated by medieval Chrstian churhc politics (the politics, mind you--he wasn't religious), music, RPGs, and military history. He went back west after college, worked as a paralegal, got married, the usual quiet life.

Then, when doing my every-couple-of-years websearch to see what he was up to (our record at keeping in touch is awful), I discover he's become a clothign desginer. And not just any kind of clothing. Fetish wear. For goth grrls.

And believe me, Dan Savage, some of the young ladies wearing Bryan's creations... let me just say that my reaction has been, "You bastard! You lucky, lucky bastard!" Wow. Yum. Mr Savage, you don't know what you're talking about.

(And, for the record, my reaction to that icon is the same, only with emphasis. Wow! Yum! :-) But then, what do I know? I'm a *fan* of lush curves. You might even say a devotee :-)

Savage is a running joke in SF, or would be if there weren't a small fraction who take him seriously.

Although... you haven't been gothic yourself since I've known you. And based on my own personal experience, I haven't ever met any wraith-like ethereal white-lipsticked goth girls either. Maybe I've just been to the wrong parts of town, too... That doesn't mean that I feel the need to stereotype them as nonexistent or wannabees.

The Arisia picture... I'm glad to see it as a userpic. Does this mean that you've colored it again? :)

Not that he's exactly hardbodied himself, as he leers down from SF billboards...

this kind of thing pisses me off because i'm a big supporter of people expressing themselves in whatever way they feel like. some of these people i may want to be friends with, and some not. it depends, on the person, not on the stereotype i may think they are trying to assimilate themselves into. i want my friends to be who they are, not who i think they should be based upon my limited idea of who they are.

i love that icon picture.

I've seen goth girls in all sizes from "oh my, do you naturally look like Callista Flockhart's skinny goth sister" to "gothic earth goddess". You've been in the wrong parts of town. I'm seeing them because I'm going to places where gothy girls congregate.

Does this construe an offer to show me some of those places, next time I'm in town? ;-)

I was actually remembering seeing gothy girls in SF, but if you're interested in going to a goth club in L.A. I suppose we can arrange that, too.
