Sep. 24th, 2003 01:11 pmToday is Boomtime, day 48 in the season of Bureaucracy, 3269.
Time for an update, I suppose.
Our router is, in fact, fried. I found one on eBay for roughly 1/10 the cost of what Speakeasy wanted to charge us (it's IDSL, don't get me started on that, it's all we could get in our apartment), but the person who wasn't charging outrageous ($30 for USPS) shipping seems to ship relatively slowly according to some of their feedback. I'm expecting at least a week before we see it, since I haven't gotten a tracking number or shipping confirmation yet. I might fall back to a NetZero dialup once I hit my Mindspring limit, as $2/hour just does not appeal.
Going to see Delerium tonight; the reviews I've seen from previous shows don't make me all that excited about the idea of trekking downtown for it after work. Need to remember to check the Metro schedule to see if it's feasible to take the Metro or if I'll be forced to either leave early or drive in. It seems like a good excuse to wear my swirly chiffon skirt, at least. Good thing: Bowie tickets go on sale Saturday for the Patriot Center. Bad thing: $60. Ouch.
I'm all about being a stresspuppy lately. After teetering on the edge of a panic attack yesterday, I'm popping theanine today to try to not totally freak out. I think it's just rapidly-approaching work deadline and things spontaneously breaking combined with a general depression and wanting to spend my day curled up in bed with a book and my cat instead of having to interact with anyone.
Speaking of depression, I've been indulging in comfort food of the "lots of sugar and carbs" variety, so the weight loss thing has been making negative progress. I will definitely try to get back on track starting next week after I figure out how they changed around the Points program. And still speaking of depression, I've noticed myself definitely withdrawing from any social contact lately. If you think I've been ignoring you lately, it's not entirely true and not at all personal in any case. There are a bunch of posts people have made in the last week-ish that I put aside to reply to, hopefully I can get around to them soon.
And on a random note: after corresponding with him a bit about a book order, I can say that I think Wil Wheaton is possibly one of the coolest people on the planet. You should all go buy his book.

Sorry to hear that... stress and deadlines tend to push me towards comfort foods likewise. But things should be better in a week's time, hopefully.
still speaking of depression
(hug)... even if you're withdrawn and down lately, lots of people still care and will wait for you :-).
Wil Wheaton is the TV Star Trek guy, right?

Date: 2003-09-24 12:18 pm (UTC)Nope, not this time. I don't know what shoes I'm wearing yet, as they need to be comfortable enough to stand in for three hours. It's going to be bad enough trying to remember how to apply makeup, I don't need to suffer in pretty but painful shoes too. ;)

He was in ST:TNG, yes. That's not his current focus though. You should read his blog, if you don't already read bits of it via my friends page.
