Things that one cannot find for love nor money here at the moment: bottled water and any batteries in sizes other than AA or AAA. I do have to wonder about people stockpiling gallons of milk though. Sna? I'm failing to see the appeal of having two and a half gallons of rancid milk sitting around if we do end up losing power.

I confess that I wasn't taking the whole hurricane thing particularly seriously until I looked at the tracking maps that show the center of the storm passing, er, relatively close to here Thursday night. (Update: they've shifted it back off to the west as of this morning.) Should be an exciting evening. =) The only thing I'm worried about really is the power; our power will go off if you just look at it wrong, so I'm expecting that it'll disappear at some point. I think tomorrow I'll try to figure out how to waterproof my leaky office, see if anyone in the state has C cells, and try to figure out what we have food-wise that doesn't require refrigeration and isn't too scary to contemplate consuming.

The Homo Despot by me had flashlights and C and D batteries today. They also had some bottled water. Do you want me to make an early AM Home Depot run for you, before I go to work. I don't have to be in the office til noon. The catch is, I wouldn't be able to get the stuff to you til sometime around nine PM tomorrow, unless you picked it up at my office in Arlington.

There are probably places nearby that sell dry ice... a 5 lb block should keep your refrigerator cold for a day or so.

Maybe I'm just in denial, but I'm not TOO worried - we're far enough inland that I suspect the most to worry about will be tornadoes.

Who sells C cells by the sea shore? *ducks & runs* ;-)

Seriously, I've been thinking of you with Isabel's approach. Take care!!

What about candles and/or oil lamps, if you can't find batteries?

Hopefully, if you have them, you won't need them.

Good luck!

Radio shack usually ahs some kind of temporary battery..they're expensive, but it might prove useful if the power keeps going out.
