Today is Sweetmorn, day 2 in the season of Bureaucracy, 3269.

People I want to dangle out a window a la Otto today:

  • Sallie Mae, who have locked me out of the web-based loan management application because I apparently forgot my password. The error message says that I should call their customer service number for help; guess who lets me go through 10 minutes of phone menus only to transfer me to a "go away, we're closed *click*" message? Screw you then, you'll wait for my money until my bank's online bill paying service gets around to cutting you a check.

  • My friend's ex, who forgot to pick up the kids this weekend and is screwing with friend's plans and hurting the kids in the process. Probably not intentionally, but still...

  • Verizon. 'Nuff said.

  • CompaqThe New HP, for making it so that instead of just being able to tighten up hinges on my laptop myself (the screen will not stay upright, I have to prop it up against a pillow or a stack of books), I have to take it to a service center and have someone replace them entirely. Cha-ching. Did I mention that this happened not too long after the warranty expired? Shocking, I know.

If half the money that was spent by companies to precisely engineer their components-failing-outside-of-warranty rates was put towards space exploration, we could have a manned colony on Mars by now.

BTW my favorite Otto trick was the "chip up the nose" bit, but that's breath play, after all. ;-)

Otto is my third favorite Kevin Kline role in a comedy.

Howard Brackett in "In & Out" is my second favorite.

But his portrayal of Jeffrey Anderson in "Soapdish" is absolutely wonderful, as is the entire movie.

Oh, and looking up character names in IMDB, I discover two upcoming films I must see: De-Lovely a Cole Porter biopic with Kline in the titular role and Picasso at the Lapin Agile.

Sallie Mae's HQ is a stone's throw from my house. *evil grin*

Right there with ya on the Verizon thing. Although I don't know if I'd necessarily want to hear them give a thorough John Cleesian apologize --I'd just let 'em drop.
