Woo!

Your current weight 169.5 lbs
Weight change since your last recorded weight -2.5 lbs
Total weight change to date -8.5 lbs

Followed of course by the "Hey, it's great you're losing, but you've lost too much this week. Try to keep to to 2 lbs a week or less, mmkay?" message.

Oh, good effing grief! I was told that particularly in the first few weeks, larger losses might be common.

(high-five) yay! You're persevering, and apparently getting results. You could be too small for the pleather pants by the time you get them... ;-)

What do you have to be doing to wear-out pleather pants? (innocent look)

The first few weeks are atypical

When I dieted last year, I was aiming for about a 500 calorie per day deficit which translates into about 1 pound per week and I'm fairly sure that on paper I shouldn't have been losing much more than that. In spite of that, I lost about 11.5 pounds in the first 4 weeks. I don't know all the details about how the body metabolizes fat and what drives water retention, but it seemed clear to me that a large fraction of that weight loss was not the steady state situation (which was confirmed later when after week 4 my weight loss forecasts based on how much I was eating started to be accurate instead of much too small).

I'd say give yourself a month or two before you worry about losing too fast (assuming that you are eating enough "on paper").

Best of luck with the diet.
