Jul. 12th, 2003 01:01 pmToday is Pungenday, day 47 in the season of Confusion, 3269.
Hm. I've found the first thing that makes me uncomfortable with Howard Dean.
Cooperation good, unilateralism bad, I'm with ya so far. The bits about exporting democracy to the poor, misguided Muslim nations leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth though.
rivka, do you have any pointers to more information on his foreign policy positions? The official web site has the national and homeland security sections, but other than that I didn't see much of anything.
And there's this piece as well. To say that I disagree strongly with him on AIPAC would be pretty much accurate.
Is any of this enough to make me not want to support him? Probably not, we'll see. I haven't seen any candidate yet that I can support unreservedly, it's a matter of picking the lesser of the various evils I suppose (and anyone -- except for maybe that wingnut LaRouche -- is a lesser evil than the current occupant of the White House in my opinion). More research is needed, and we've still got a good long time to see how things shake out.

Dean described his foreign policy views as being "based on cooperation with other nations." "Unilateralism is a mistake," he said. One of his foreign policy goals "is to bring democracy and freedom to Muslim nations. We can only do that with cooperation. Half of the Muslim world would not support Osama bin Laden if Arab and Muslim regimes were not so oppressive." (from this article)
