Happy Cheese Weasel Day!

Who brings the cheese on April 3rd? The Cheese Weasel! He's not a silly bunny or a reindeer or a bird, He's the Cheese Weasel! He's got a cute black tail And tiny buck teeth He doesn't bring fish and he Doesn't bring beef So you'd better be good if you wanna get some cheese From the Cheese Weasel.

I guess I haven't been particularly good: no cheese under my keyboard, not even a slice of pasteurized processed cheese food. I'd completely forgotten what day it was until dglenn mentioned it, although I did feel a strange compulsion to stop at Harris Teeter on the way in to work and buy myself some cheese and crackers for lunch. Yum yum.

In honor of the holiday, I'm considering trekking in to Alexandria to Cheesetique for a bit of a nosh. They've recently (as in "last week") opened up a cheese and wine bar in the back of the store, which chadu and I discovered by sheer luck last weekend. A glass of wine each and the three-cheese plate with olives and a bread basket ended up being a very filling dinner for two for not much money. We had a raw milk Manchego, a gouda of a variety whose name I don't remember, and the Bayley Hazen blue. I don't generally like blue cheeses, but I gave this one a try; it was actually fairly tasty, especially combined with a bit of the quince paste. I don't think I'm a blue cheese convert yet, but at least I'll go so far as nibbling at it.
