I saw an ad in a couple of places today for a <$1000 Compaq Presario laptop and went out to check up on them, since my four-year-old Presario doesn't boot anymore and getting it repaired is likely to cost me a significant percentage of the price of a new system. Microcenter claimed to have it, but I couldn't find it when I got there and so trekked over to Circuit City because I'd already determined that they had it in stock. (I'm reminded now of why I never go in to Circuit City.) They did have the Compaq, but as I took a little wander down the aisle while waiting for a salesguy to come help me, I came across this; for not very much more, I got twice the RAM, a bigger hard drive, and a larger display. I really like the Presarios, but my shiny new Aspire is pretty spiff. I'll probably end up getting a Presario at work this year as a desktop replacement, so it seems I can have it all. ;)

One of my neighbors apparently has an open wireless network named "linksys". I feel almost morally obligated to take advantage of their lack of foresight. ;)

Yay, it seems my website is back up. For several hours today I couldn't connect in any way, shape or form (HTTP/SSH/FTP), even though the machine itself was up. When I tried to submit a trouble ticket, I got a page that reads: "License Error: Key file has expired". Oops. Is bad to let the license for your trouble ticket system expire. Still no support site available, but at least I can get to my site to upload the spiffy new Willow moodtheme I found in [livejournal.com profile] moodtheme.

Despite being up way too late the night before (I unwisely went to go see "Brokeback Mountain" at 12:25, even knowing I needed to be up around 9:30 the next day) and running around frantically trying to get the house tidied up, I had a lovely evening last night. Several people ended up bailing for various reasons, but those of us who were there seemed to have a good time. Good conversation and death by chocolate, hard to beat that.

I finished up with the CD swap I was meistering as of Friday. I have to say that my friends have excellent taste in music. =) I'm also amused to see that on two separate discs, people included songs I had originally had on my playlist and then removed to get it to fit on a single CD. (Death Cab for Cutie's "I Will Follow You Into the Dark" and a track from the Katamari Damacy soundtrack.)

Tonight I think is laundry night, then perhaps watching either "Bride and Prejudice" or maybe some of the new Ghost in the Shell. And sleep. Sleep would be good.
