In much the same way that taxes/fees/etc. literally double my basic long-distance bill, taxes/fees/etc. seem to account for a disproportionately large percentage of the price of a plane ticket. Guh.

"$350 to Paris in early September? Yay!"
"Oh. Yeah. <insert profanity of choice here>"
Cut since it seems to be larger than I thought )

Of course this is all completely theoretical at the moment anyway, but it's good to know. I do need to get moving on figuring out ways to use up my vacation time so that I don't lose any next year like I did this year. Long weekend at the beach, long weekend in LA, road trip out west, possible long-ish weekend in Paris to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] brian1789 [Edit: nope, scheduling will not allow me to make this particular trip as planned.], possible trip to Europe or someplace else interesting later in the fall with [livejournal.com profile] nminusone. Yep, if that all comes through, that oughta just about take care of my three-ish remaining weeks. Oh yeah, and somewhere in there I have to find some way to make travel plans mesh with that whole "paying down/off my credit cards" plan. o_O

Hm. A CD called "Ex-Girlfriends" by a band fronted by Leonard Cohen's son. That's gonna be a real upper, I'm sure.

*snerk* And I've just choked on my coffee:
But the Low Millions also represent that rarest of social entities: A successful "open" relationship. Adam Cohen, informal ringleader of the band, notes that all the seasoned players involved in the Low Millions have passed in and out of each others' orbits for many years. And if a member gets poached by another artist - as often happens with individuals of this caliber - the others don't worry; the stray always hurries home to play with the Low Millions again.
