geekchick: (primping)
I was inspired to pull out some of the imps I have sitting around and try some of them out. First up:

Harlot
Based on a Romany incense blend reputed to induce sexual dreams: Somalian rose, Moroccan rose and Bulgar rose with a sultry dribble of cinnamon.

In the vial: ROSES. Yowza.
Wet: In the first pass, it seemed to go powdery almost immediately. Not to be discouraged, I tried again. Still lots of roses, but not as strong as in the vial. I'm not smelling the...okay, after about five minutes there's a small hint of cinnamon. I probably wouldn't have noticed it if I wasn't looking for it.
Dry: The cinnamon is completely gone, and it's tending heavily towards "rose-scented powder". It's not bad, but I was hoping for a little more spice. It also doesn't seem to last very long on my skin. [Edit: Okay, I must've just stopped being able to smell it for a while, as this morning there's still a very faint rose scent on my wrist.] As to the reputed effects, well, I'll tell you tomorrow. Or not, more likely.

I have something like nine imps to test out, so you may be seeing these pop up often in the next few weeks. =)

MAIDEN
A gentle vision of purity, goodness and virtue: white tea, carnation and Damask Rose.

First off: shut up, all of you. ;) I didn't burst into flames when I applied it or anything like that.

This was one of the freebies I got with my order, which I think is pretty amusing seeing as how the scents I ordered had names like "Harlot" and "Libertine". I can see why it was picked based on my order though, as it's another rose/floral scent.

In the vial: Another very strong rose scent with just a hint of carnation. I don't smell the white tea at all.
Wet: Initially the carnation is very strong, almost completely overpowering the rose. Still no tea. As it starts to dry, the carnation backs off a bit and the rose reappears. The scent reminds me very strongly of something I remember as a kid, I think it might've been a scratch and sniff book. I know if I heard that comparison without smelling it myself, I'd be at least a little afraid; it's actually rather nice though. I like it.
Dry: Strong carnation with a hint of rose. And finally the white tea appears, but it's faint. Interestingly, it smells different on each wrist: one is heavier on the carnation, the other has a stronger rose scent.

Overall, I think I like this as a nice summer scent. If you don't like carnation though, you'll probably want to avoid it. I'll use up the imp and consider buying a larger bottle.

[EDIT: Hm. After five or so hours, the scent seems to be almost entirely gone except for an extremely faint whiff of something that smells vaguely like powder. I have a sneaking suspicion that rose scents are going to tend to turn into baby powder on me; disappointing, since I love them. Hopefully it was just coincidence.]
