geekchick: (thinking)
Today is Prickle-Prickle, day 56 in the season of Discord, 3269.

After way too long, frankly, of having absolutely no motivation to do anything at all (yay, depression!), I seem to be snapping out of it finally. Yesterday I started cleaning up the office at home here, starting with the huge piles of papers that needed to be dealt with for the last six months at least. I shredded enough to fill the kitchen trash can completely, and filed all the rest. You have no idea how much I hate filing, it's a holdover from a previous job. I straightened up my office bookshelves and dusted them, and you can now see the floor in that corner of the room. If I can find someplace to put the Sparc that's currently sitting on top of it, I can move the file cabinet and create a lot more space. I also started dusting the bookshelves in the living room and calculating how big a bookshelf I need to buy tomorrow morning to hold the books that are all stacked on top of other books. Tomorrow I'm taking the day off work and plan a massive spring cleaning of the house, complete with vacuuming the whole place and shampooing the carpets. In the meantime I also finished up "Reaper Man" and started on Liza Dalby's "Kimono: Fashioning Culture". When I'm done with that, I have "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions" next in the queue.

On the work front, I've in the last two days made large amounts of progress on mySQL database and PHP interface for the graphics benchmarks results (with today's frustrating time out to try to edit some PostScript for something else). My PHP-fu is rusty since I haven't touched it in a while, but Dreamweaver MX has some built-in stuff which is helping refresh my memory. Today I got to show off something that worked, which is always a good thing. Once I get one more piece done and the public server set up such that I can drop this in from my desktop machine, I can show it off to the folks who will be using it. I think they'll be extremely excited about being able to click column headings and sort results based on those fields; keep in mind that right now everything is done in static HTML -- there's no dynamic sorting, just what's done by the summary-generating scripts. It feels really good to be mostly back in the swing of things at work. I've been pretty out of it lately, and I know it's showed. Naturally, right around review time. :-P

I'm not sure what's contributing to my mood improvement lately; maybe it's the fact that it's sunny when I leave work now, or maybe it's my 1600 mg of SAM-e daily for the last few weeks, or the St. John's Wort and 5-HTP, or the fact that I'm not stressing at one of my partners anymore and we seem to be happy with each other again, or the fact that I always come back from dinner with Will totally crushed out on him for a few days (*grin* Blushing yet, dear? ;) ), or most likely it's some combination of all of the above. If I can add to that some visible accomplishment with work or the house or both, I think things will start looking up. Here's hoping...
