Nov. 13th, 2002 02:48 amI keep sitting down to write about my alt.polycon experience, and it never quite comes out right. Too much stuff to process.
Some of the good things: much-needed time spent with
brian1789; the rush when he walked in the door on Friday night (*schmoop*); meeting
patgreene for the first time in person; receiving a very high compliment which still has me a bit giddy and which I won't detail here *blush* ; going to look for an additional heart for my badge on Saturday morning; noticing that
curiousangel had two hearts on his badge on Friday; an astounding number of intelligent, interesting, articulate people all in one place; lunch on Sunday with
wolfy, who seems much stronger and more together than I've seen him in a long time; lots of seebling at panels, especially the "Living Shy" (even if the panel did bring on my public speaking phobia); spending an afternoon hanging out with
hammercock, who was generous enough to offer to pick me up at the airport and to take me out to the hotel, with lots of neat conversation in between; my cunning plan involving wearing a long burgundy velvet dress on Sunday worked and i got petted (hey
rivka, in that dress I'm pettable up and down. ;) ); too many interesting programming things going on, many of them opposite each other; trying to come up with an explanation for why I'll never be able to hear "carry on" again without laughing; vast quantities of NRE nauseating everyone within a five mile radius; actually managing to break
curiousangel's brain with some of my music (a feat I was sure could not be managed, and IIRC it was done with The Benzedrine Monks' cover of The Monkees theme song).
Some of the not-so-happy things: the worst was having to put
brian1789 and
patgreene on a plane on Sunday and not being able to go with them; not hearing from a couple of people I'd hoped to see while I was in the area; related to that, not having the energy to get out of the hotel to go see anyone who wasn't at the con (it was a very busy weekend though, and I'll try to see folks when I'm up again); being too shy to say hello to [someone I enjoy reading on a.p. and a mailing list] in the hall when she was talking with Brian and Pat; being too shy to introduce myself to most anyone (although since I lurk on both the newsgroup and wombat mostly, no one would know who I was anyway); a wee bit of drama.
On the whole, if I had to sum up my weekend, I might pick the "giddy, bouncy and terrifying" sticker. Good thing I like being terrified. ;) There's a lot more, I know it, but I'll stick with this since I need some sleep.
