May. 1st, 2002 11:57 pmToday is Sweetmorn, day 48 in the season of Discord, 3268.
Today was "random, not-consistently-reproducible problems" day with the web site. I'm reminded of hunting down the bugs in the system in "Ah! My Goddess". All I needed was a big mallet of my own (and I doubt these bugs were nearly as cute). Am almost done with some javascripting for a survey, I just need to fix one last little problem and then get stuff put in the live pages. (I would've much rather been listening to a lecture on solar sails than writing code today.) Oh yeah, and I've set a personal deadline to get sample templates for a redesign out by Friday COB. I'm thinking by 9 am Monday is more likely to happen. I'm not a designer, I take someone else's design and make it work, so this is a bit more difficult than it might otherwise be. Add in that one of the major problems with the site is that navigation is near impossible, and it's a bit of a challenge. Oh, and it has to work in lynx too. At least once that finally gets hammered out and agreed upon by all the various committee members...I'll have more than enough to keep me busy for a very, very long time. This site, even discounting the results pages which need to stay in a particular format, is freakin' huge, and not even remotely consistent.
There was a note on the door today that maintenance is coming in to all apartments to "put warning stickers on the dryers". Warning stickers. On the dryers. WTF? "No, Mr. Property Manager, I had no idea that putting gasoline-soaked rags in my dryer might cause a fire!" I can't imagine what these stickers are going to say. "Don't be an idiot."
I'm a bit peeved that someone finally contacted me only to ask for some information, and then I haven't heard a peep since I replied. A simple "thank you" would've been nice, since it did involve some research on my part. I've more than gotten the hint at this point, and I'm not going to put forth a whole lot more effort.
Perhaps tonight I should go to bed at a reasonable hour. Now, to define "reasonable"...
