It's not even Thanksgiving yet, and I'm already getting sick of Christmas stuff. It used to be that the Christmas decorations and all would be put out right after Thanskgiving; this year I was shopping for Halloween stuff in mid-October and several stores already had Christmas merchandise out. What the hell? And Cartoon Network has already shown "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" three times this week, and we won't even mention the monstrosity that is Jim Carrey's version.

Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas (except for trying to go shopping in those last few days with every other person on the planet, circling mall parking lots for a space like sharks in search of a nice, tender surfer), I love decorating and giving presents. But I don't like the fact that next year the Christmas stuff will probably start being put out right after the 4th of July, and soon we'll probably have a whole week in January right after New Year's that we're free of Christmas merchandise. I can't look forward to the winter holiday season if it starts in September. =P

My sister and brother-in-law and nephew are coming to visit for Thanksgiving, getting here on Thursday afternoon. My brother, sister-in-law and niece can't make it since they're moving this week into the house they just built and can't really get away. This should be interesting. None of my family ever came to visit me (with two exceptions - once my mom and dad and sister came up while I was in college and my dad was getting really sick, and then Mom and John and Mary came up for my college graduation almost 8 years ago), I was always the one having to go home. In the last few years it made sense, since my mom was so sick. Now though I'd like to have my family come see me every once in a while. I think it's related to my earlier whining about how I have to travel if I want to see my non-local sweeties; it sometimes makes me feel like I'm expending all the effort and if I didn't, we'd never see each other.

Well, we'll have fun anyway. It's an excellent excuse for me to play tourist and show them around DC. My nephew is all excited about going to the National Zoo, and I know my brother-in-law wants to go to Natural History. I've got a couple of guidebooks that I'll sit them down with on Thursday night and have them pick some stuff out, since we only have 2 and a half days to be touristy. Hope my sister will hold up okay with a lot of walking, what with the two apparently very large babies on the way.
