I'm staring at the little bit I can see of my desk and building up my resolve to do some decluttering. I've got my technical books overflowing the bookcase here and stacked on the floor, piles and piles of mail that needs to be sorted and the junk mail thrown out, CDs that I bring in to listen to and then never reshelve. And that's just the office. I really need to cull out my closet again and donate/eBay a bunch of stuff that I bought that I never wear or that won't fit me again anytime soon. I already have a big pile of stuff destined for eBay, if I can ever get moving and get pictures/measurements of it all. And don't forget the boxes and boxes of stuff I've hauled with me for the last couple of moves and never really bothered to unpack.

At least it's not as bad as it used to be; before moving into this place I packed up my car and moved from DC back to Memphis for a month to be with my mom before she died, so I was inspired to do some trashing of stuff that had been sitting in boxes unopened from the last move. I managed to toss about half of the unneeded stuff (like the datebook from 1995), but I've still got a fair amount to go. Now if I could just get over the habit of keeping stuff around because of some sentimental attachment, or the thought that "well, I might use this one day, even if I'd forgotten until now that I even had it", I'd be okay. And perhaps the current lack of regular income will help keep me from replacing the old useless stuff with new useless stuff. =/
