Speaking of plagues and those plaguedomes you posted about, I wonder how they're going to make a snowglobe out of the death of the firstborn? Actually...I don't. I really don't want to know.
We had some pretty scary and serious thunder and lightning (in Arlington). It's supposed to start again soon-I can see and hear the wind picking up and I'm at home in Alexandria now.
It must've totally missed us. Out at the office, there wasn't anything resembling a storm (or even just rain) all day. I'm home in Fair Lakes now and it doesn't seem like anything happened here today either. I did just see a report of hail in Tyson's Corner though. Weird how things can vary so much from place to place.
My boss was going from our office (near Glebe road) to a site on Wilson Blvd. and was driving through incredible rain. We got like, none at our office. Weird, eh?
Nah, not always. There were tornados up near the MD/PA line apparently, but it never even rained here (at least not since I got home); in fact we got a particularly pretty sunset.
Interesting. In Georgia, at least they used to keep everyone at work or school during watches and warnings, on the theory that you were at least as well off there as caught out on the road somnewhere...
Frankly, I think I might feel a bit more secure in my office than in my apartment. Let's just say that the quality of the interior construction gives me doubts about the quality of the exterior construction.
And now I'm remembering tornado drills in grade school. Everybody had to file out into the halls and kneel down with our heads towards the lockers, hands covering our necks. We did actually have a couple "this is not a drill" incidents, but never any harm done. Eek. The things that are wedged in my long-term memory. It could be mathematical equations or something useful, but instead it's the natural disaster equivalent of "duck and cover"
I thought (given pictures on your website) that you and Chris lived in a house, rather than an apartment?
In junior high, we actually had a tornado touch down in a field across the street from the school -- all it did was uproot a large tree and knock down the power lines. Another one later went literally over my house (aloft) and touched down a mile away near the same school (tearing up a forest stretch that we kids then observed while on the bus to school every day). A bit eerie...
The one-bedrooms in this complex are single-level apartments, the two and three bedrooms are two- to four-level stacked townhouse-like apartments. They call them townhouses, but as far as I'm concerned they're just multi-level apartments. And now I have to go figure out what pictures you had in mind when you were thinking "house". :)
All the rain here finished up by around 10 am. D. told me that golf-ball sized hail was seen just north of here, around dinnertime, but I saw none of it.
It's funny about GA and tornado warning/watches - they never do shut things down for a mere *warning* down there.
I didn't see a drop of rain all day. Slept through the storms this morning, there was no rain out near Warrenton, missed rain here during the day. I heard about hail in Gaithersburg and Tyson's, but saw none of it. Ah well, my supervisor and I decided it was a good enough excuse to cut out of work about an hour early, so I think I got the best of it. ;)
