It's 11:30, I should be working on going to bed, and I'm @#$%ing sunburned. Went out for lunch today with some folks from the subcommittee and since we ate outside on a patio, I managed to get my face and chest sunburned. Augh! But it was incredibly beautiful here today - sunny, a bit breezy and warm. I am liking it here, although it's just about time to go home and sleep in my own bed. Sometime late tomorrow night I'll be home. I hear it's been raining all week, so I'll try to minimize the sunburn so as to not make Chris wildly jealous. =) I think I'll have to come back to San Diego some other time. We considered going to the zoo on Sunday, but I am utterly spoiled by having the National Zoo locally and the idea of $32 to go to the zoo didn't sit too well with me right now. Maybe on vacation when I'm expecting to spend lots of money I'll try again. I'm very much in touch with my inner cheapskate right about now, unfortunately. Ah well, time for packing up and then bed for me. And this time, I shall not be leaving my curtains open thinking that perhaps the rising sun will help me wake up at 7. (by 6 am there was quite the glare in my face and I was pretty much up for the day an hour before I needed to be; gah!)

I think that the SD Zoo is better than the National Zoo. Unless the National Zoo has undergone major renovations since '88, which I could believe. Because it really needed some.

But my favorite zoo is the L.A. Zoo.

Go to the other museums in Balboa Park, instead.

Ah! I'd forgotten about not needing to pay for the National Zoo.

I should mention, too, that the National Zoo does not take my unaward for "most depressing zoo I've ever been to". That one goes to the zoo in Antwerp, also in '88.

Actually, if you have a rental car, I'd recommend driving an hour out to near Escondido and visiting the SD Zoo's wild animal park. It has a more natural setting for most of the animals. And don't forget to feed the lorries ;-).

The San Diego zoo is really worth it though, having also lived in DC.. If nothing else but the polar bears :) but the rest of the zoo is good, too.
