Today is Pungenday, day 38 in the season of Chaos, 3168.

I had forgotten that Valentine's Day is coming up soon, right up until the @#$% washingtonpost.com site blasted me with ads for jewelry and candy and flowers. Maybe if I put my head back in the sand until it's all over, everyone else will be spared my rant. (Well, probably not; this is livejournal after all.) Wake me up on the 15th, will you?

I knew some anti-Valentine's Day friends who decided to "celebrate" by going against societal expectations and holding a "St. Valentine'S Day Massacre" Party. They dressed up as gangsters and molls, and just about everyone went stag...even if you had a long-term relationship, the expectation was to mingle and make jokes about the commercial aspects of Valentine's Day, drink and eat, dance, and just have a good time. I thought it was a pretty good idea.
