more on the job front (or less, really)

Today is Pungenday, day 1 in the season of The Aftermath, 3167.
You know, I'd be golden if I happened to have an active clearance. I know at SAIC I was in the process of getting an INS clearance to work on that STARS task, but I don't know that it ever got completed. If it did, they neglected to tell me about it either granted or denied. There are so many jobs here that sound really promising right up until the part where they say Active TS w/lifestyle poly (which doesn't actually mean *that*, alas) an absolute requirement. And I can't even say "but I had an active TS within the last 22 months", which would greatly speed up the process and probably be vaguely acceptable. I suppose I can still apply, but IME postings which say they require a current clearance are there because they don't have time to wait around for someone they hired to twiddle their thumbs doing busy work while they wait to get cleared. Or else they don't feel like shelling out the cash for the clearance process. Or some of both.
I think I'm going to go ahead an apply for this webmaster job anyway, since to build a Cold Fusion application framework I don't actually have to have access to the live data right away, I just need the database structure. And I'm not even totally averse to driving to Frederick if I have to. I'm sure I won't get a call about it, but whatever.
Unrelated, I had really weird dreams last night even without the melatonin. Kind of "Hong Kong action movie meets X-Files meets Buffy". Very, very odd. Something involving Jet Li (mmmmm) and the two of us being the subject of police manhunts and an old farmhouse where something odd was going on involving a large bonfire and a Nancy Drew-ish high school student and her friends who were like the Lone Gunmen at 13 years old (who were all in the process of trying to help the Jet Li character get past the cops to find out what was going on at the farmhouse) and a really creepy high school principal (the guy from Ferris Bueller's Day Off, it was) who was obviously up to something strange. My perspective kept shifting back and forth between the characters, which was interesting; normally if I remember dreams I remember from the perspective of one specific person. Either way, I was woken up in the middle of the dream by the alarm and I have no idea where this particularly disjointed epic was headed. And I didn't even have anything particularly hallucinogenic last night, just fish & chips and a few beers. ;)
I think today will be a "bag up all my boxes of old clothes for Goodwill and pull out winter clothes" kind of day. Yay velvet and chenille weather.

Date: 2001-10-22 12:28 pm (UTC)I just wondered what the going rate
was.
Heather Patterson's husband Rodney
(whom I'm not sure if you have met or
not) just got a job with SAIC.
Re: I didn't miss it.
Date: 2001-10-22 12:38 pm (UTC)I did meet Rodney once, when the six of us and the two REALLY BIG DOGS were over at your place. =) Last year? And if he's working for G*ry Dr*ne (those would both be "a", I just don't want it to turn up on an ego search) I advise him to run away quickly. It's a fine place to work, so long as you like bureaucracy and being forced to play the corporate politics game.
