So Holland America said "there won't be a formal night on this cruise" and since I wanted an excuse to wear a fancy-schmancy dress, I was all: :(
Then today I got the schedule email and now I'm all: :D
- THE PAUL F. TOMPKINS MOUSTACHE FORMAL
A gathering for fancy people in fancy clothes (optional), wearing fancy moustaches (required), convened in defiance of Holland America's announcement that there will be no traditional "formal night." Moustaches will be provided. Hosted by actor/comedian/moustache wearer/sharp-dressed man Paul F. Tompkins.

[livejournal.com profile] winterfield, I may need your costuming advice. ;)

Tangentially, thank you all for the kind comments on the new haircut. So far I am loving it. Can't wait to see just how short it ends up once I don't blow it out and flat iron it and just let the natural curl take over.

What cruise is it that HAL isn't doing a formal night. I'm boggled!

Oh, it might be the length. Normally they do one formal night per week and they do promote that their cruises near the holidays tend to be more casual. So you probably hit a combination of those two things. We did have 2 formal nights on the 11-day we did around the same time last year though.

I'd love to see you in a ball gown, with or without mustache...

Much as I prefer long hair on women, I have to admit that the new haircut looks perky and cute. :-)

So weird. I will sat that on the HAL cruise we were on the level of formal varied a great deal -- I wore suits (my stupid tux didn't arrive in time) or gowns and Patty wore gowns. We only wore shorter dresses for semi-formal or casual evenings. And while there were other people who dressed up, a lot of people stopped at cocktail level attire, and we got the stink eye from them more than once.

(we also got a lot of, "you're so young, why are you on a cruise" which got a little tiring).

I'm just hoping that someone misreads

I love the new haircut. It's beautiful on you! Since you have naturally wavy hair too, I highly reocmmend products in the Moroccan Oil line (particularly this stuff called "curl cream"). I use it on my ends and it helps my waves behave and not poof up like a cotton ball.

I did have a problem with poof when my hair was cut into a bob (mushroom head) so you might want to play around a bit with styling product to get your hair to behave like you want.
