The Internet is for porn public domain. Really?REALLY?

But honestly Monica, the web is considered "public domain" and you should be happy we just didn't "lift" your whole article and put someone else's name on it! It happens a lot, clearly more than you are aware of, especially on college campuses, and the workplace.

            - Judith Griggs, managing editor of "Cook's Source", in response to the author whose article was published without permission

You know whoever maintains their Facebook page is thinking this right about now:

Wow. That's just... Wow. I think everyone's in agreement there. THis is slam dunk copyright infringement - she's admitted to lifting it, copying it, making some edits, and republishing it for profit and gain.

The author should have fun with this one :)

No way! How does someone so ignorant get to be a managing editor?

Not ignorant. Arrogant. She expects the real author to slink away with her tail between her legs, or maybe go away thinking she's lucky they used her material and didn't charge her an editing fee.

My thought is to respond with a letter written by a lawyer who knows copyright law, saying "I gave you a chance to play nice. Now I want a correction notice published prominently in your next printed issue and posted permanently on the website, PLUS full payment at the going rate for an article written by a professional free-lance author." And then follow through, if necessary.

This just keeps getting better. At this point, I'm starting to wonder if everything in her magazine isn't plagarized.

And of course, she will get no support from her colleagues in the media.

Why yes, it does happen on college campuses. We expel people for it, too.
