I had not heard about this before. My respect for Huffington Post (neutral really) is now completely in the crapper.

Hoagland is a crank, pure and simple. He has no scientific training whatsoever. He's a conspiracy theorist.

Why this idjit is being given wide exposure is beyond me.

eh? Some end-of-world catastrophe scenario due to the BP foulup? LOL. That's a huge stretch... besides, if I were going to worry about ocean clathrates suddenly dumping their load, so to speak, I'd be more concerned about something pinging the offshore Pacific Northwest...
