A phony SBE flier circulated in the Hampton Roads (VA) area advises that the General Assembly has passed an emergency resolution directing that Republicans should vote on Nov. 4 and Democrats should vote on Nov. 5 "to ease the load on local electorial (sic) precincts and ensure a fair electorial (sic) process".

Whichever candidate you're voting for next Tuesday, don't forget that in some areas--like Virginia and DC--you can't wear your pro- or anti-candidate or issue hat/shirt/button/sticker/whatever to the polls, lest you run afoul of the state electioneering regulations. [Edit: The VA SBE decision to ban express advocacy (shirts/buttons/etc.) across the board was voted in within the last two weeks, to go along with the limits on electioneering within 40' of the entrance to the polling place. The local boards have discretion to limit implied advocacy, but express advocacy is now uniformly forbidden.]

In California, "electioneering" -- including wearing campaign t-shirts, hats, etc. -- isn't allowed within 100 ft of polls.

I imagine electioneering is prohibited everywhere. The radius may differ from state to state; in New York it's 150' from the entrance to the polling site, so if you're parking a car in or near a polling place you'd be a Hero of the Revolution if you taped a piece of paper over your political bumper stickers. And, yeah, stick the buttons in your pocket and zip up your jacket (or turn your T-shirt inside out) before making a big presence at the polling site. Poll workers are glad that you are engaged with the process, but it's a freaking long day without giving cause for folks to protest.

Those flyers are an old joke... We see them every election the past few years, and made by proponents of both sides.

Frankly, anyone stupid enough to believe them... Maybe they shouldn't be part of the process... (That's a joke, there, BTW)
