Buchanan is no longer a GOP partisan, which means he'll actually say a Democrat gave a good speech if a Democrat gave a good speech.

Yeah, it was. I don't think it was the best speech he's ever given, but it was a great acceptance speech. You can watch it here; the transcript is there too, but you really need to watch him speak sometime.

I think the best part of that video is Maddow's look of "WTF?" as Buchanan's raving about how it was probably the best convention speech ever.

Thanks for the link. Most of what I've heard, and read thus far in today's paper, has focussed more on why they had him speak in a pseudo-Greek temple, rather than actual speech content... sounds like someone in DNC convention planning was completely clueless.

Although it really plays to the "cult" or "messiah" meme leftover from the primaries, I have to wonder how someone didn't get it. In any case, the other side seems to have pushed it off the table now with their surprise VP pick.

I think McCain just own goaled himself on one count; hard to pick on Obama's perceived lack of experience when you pick someone with even less national or foreign policy experience for a position where they'll have a better than average chance of actually becoming president. I assume that the intent is that as a creationist/anti-abortion and pro-death penalty type she'll appeal to fundies.
