It's official: I've forgotten 3/4 of everything I ever knew about perl, which wasn't all that much to start with.

Sheesh.

[Edit: I've finally figured out that the problem wasn't with my logic but with some leading whitespace that I didn't know was there and so didn't explicitly strip out. I'm not sure if that makes me feel better or worse.]
