VH1 has this big thing for 80's Alt stuff no idea why.

Pretty much because of what [livejournal.com profile] jadasc pointed out, I suspect. Those of us fogeys who don't give a flying fsck about Fall Out Boy or pimping our ride still harbor fond memories of "120 Minutes".
