For the first time ever, I got (most) presents mailed out with plenty of time to spare. My SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSwap package went out via Priority Mail on Saturday, presents for [livejournal.com profile] brian1789 and [livejournal.com profile] patgreene went out today also via Priority Mail in hopes of catching them before they leave, and I got 3/5 of the nieces and nephews take care of today as well. Even though today was supposed to be a horrible day for mailing things, the trick appears to be to go to the post office at 2:45 (after the lunch rush and before the post-work rush starting around 3:30); I got in and out in under half an hour. The remaining two presents are oddball sizes, enough so that I just got a 20x20x20 box from the UPS Store and am going to pack it with all the peanuts we've been meaning to get rid of. Two birds with one stone and all that. =) One of the presents I sent (I feel safe posting this here because the recipient 1) does not have a computer at home and 2) is two years old and can't read yet. ) was a Fisher Price Little People Noah's Ark, which proudly lists one of the pieces as a "rainbow flag". I was going to send it anyway because he likes the animals, but I couldn't resist after seeing that. It's an awfully cute little rainbow flag too, rainbow-shaped even.

Speaking of Little People, I find it funny that the version that I played with as a kid (the kind that were essentially round plastic heads stuck on what was basically a wooden dowel) are now considered way too dangerous for kids to play with because they're a choking hazard. Man, I loved those things. I had the airplane, and the little red and white minibus where the people inside would bounce up and down as you wheeled it around, and the barn that went "moo" when you opened the door, and the garage and the village and a bunch of individual pieces. Wish I knew what happened to them; same goes for a lot of toys I had as a kid, they up and disappeared when I wasn't looking.

One of our nieces got some Little People playset a couple of years ago. When you put the people in certain places, it would sing a song. Got to be quite annoying by the end of the day. Found out that a few days later, brother-in-law took the batteries out of it. For good. :-)

We had the airplane and the barn, and then my little sister also had the coolest thing ever, which was a camping set. It was kind of like an SUV thing, with a boat on top that was the cab, and it pulled a tent camper. I remember the little plastic grill that had a decal of charred meats. Ha!

I miss them. I have a one-year-old to buy for still this year. I see Fisher Price in his future.

We might still have the Little People airplane, buried in the boxes of the kids' old toys... I still see the Little People themselves occasionally underfoot (ow!).

I'm glad that I got to deliver yours in person, even though your tree wasn't up yet :-).

in hopes of catching them before they leave

They arrived in today's mail, two packages. Stunningly quick, for the USPS... only two days. Thanks, dear!
