What do you do when you've had to admit in public that you were wrong, Wrong, WRONG about those weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, you've pissed off even parts of your own party with your wildly inaccurate numbers on how much this vaunted Medicare overhaul is going to actually cost, and your supervisors in the National Guard said they couldn't evaluate your performance because you hadn't been there? Why, you finally admit that you're going to endorse a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage to maybe distract people from looking too hard at anything else, of course!

"Republican officials said Bush's decision to proceed now was driven partly by his desire to start the general election campaign on a fresh issue, at a time when his credibility has been battered by questions about prewar warnings of unconventional weapons in Iraq, as well as doubts raised by Democrats about his National Guard service. "

Gee, you don't say. Look, Elvis!
