homesick

*sigh* It's odd. I haven't wanted to move back to Mississippi for a long time.

This house if dropped down where I live right now would cost somewhere in the range of $275,000. And it's about two miles away from my sister and her family. I don't know what's gotten into me, I don't really want to live near Memphis again. I think it's just that I'd like to actually get to know my nieces and nephews. And to be able to afford a house. $499 a month, with a $5k downpayment. That's less than a third of our current rent for about the same amount of space. Not rent and utilities, just rent. Yeah, yeah, I know. Salaries are correspondingly lower, but still... *sigh*

I am in a truly foul mood today. No, I don't know why.

Actually I think I figured out what it was. Had a blood sugar crash not long after the last entry, I think the crankiness was just part of the stuff leading up to that. Sorry for snapping at folks.

Joann's has the most adorable purple polar fleece with black and purple and gray bats on it. I *heart* polar fleece. I think I need to make myself a blankie. Edge it with satin and it will be just like my blankie when I was a wee tot. Well, except mine wasn't purple bat print polar fleece. HEY! I could disturb my siblings by making baby blankets for the new crop of kidlets. Heh.

Speaking of disturbing, this Orbital track has a sample of "Surfin' Bird". Random shuffle of the CD also presented me with the Doctor Who theme track right before this.

Hm. I said in an earlier entry something about salaries in Memphis being correspondingly lower along with the cost of living. But check this: this report says the median base salary is a bit under $4000/year less in Horn Lake than it is in DC, as of August 2001. Of course that implies that there actually are any webmaster jobs around there; monster doesn't show any in the last several months.
Median Household Income
Horn Lake Fairfax
$36,499 $82,051
Cost of Living Index (national average set to 100)
89 173
Single Family Home Sale Price Index(national average set to 100)
64 258
Culture Index (national average = 98.13)
87 147
Yeah, this is all totally theoretical. C. would absolutely never agree to live there, since it is definitely easier for him to find work in this area. And I don't know why I keep thinking about this anyway. I'm sure I'll snap out of it after I go spend a weekend with my family. =)
