"Just from what little I’ve seen of [Michelle Obama] and Mr. Obama, Sen. Obama, they're a member of an elitist-class individual that thinks that they're uppity," [Georgia Republican Rep. Lynn] Westmoreland said.

Asked to clarify that he used the word “uppity,” Westmoreland said, “Uppity, yeah.”

That took longer than I expected, honestly. I was sure someone was gonna go there long before now, like the Kentucky representative who called Obama "that boy".

Maybe he'll have a Macaca Moment next election.

You know that they just stopped short of that insidious "n" word.
Asshats.

sigh. I don't like Obama and doubt his ability to govern, but stuff like this... and Palin... mean that I can't possibly vote for the Republicans.

If you vote for the Republicans I won't play with you anymore.

Hm... the old Lysistratan approach... :P

[identity profile] dawnd.livejournal.com 2008-09-05 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Arguably a very conservative approach, as it's worked for thousands of years.

very conservative approach, eh? I guess that does go well with abstinence-only education, after all... Sarah Palin might like it. (ducks quickly)

You're about to get an abstinence-only education....

A black friend of mine who was watching McCain's acceptance speech tonight likened the proceedings to a KKK rally.

Actually, Pat Buchanan of all people (yes, that Pat Buchanan) brought this up about a month ago, on MSNBC's Morning Joe show (he's a periodic commentator). I forget the exact quote, but they were talking about Obama, and talking about how the Republicans talk about him, and Buchanan said, "Listen, to someone from the south, that's just a code word for saying he's 'uppity'. And everyone knows what that means.", or at least something very similar to that.

But, yeah, I'm kinda surprised it's finally been said out in the open.
