rivka, I assume you've seen this latest instance of Maryland Comptroller Schaefer spouting off with something unbelievable, in which he claims that AIDS patients "brought it on themselves"?

It was also in the context of wanting the state to publish a list of everyone in Maryland who has tested HIV-positive, so that people could look each other up.

I have no idea why anyone still gives this guy a platform. He's despicable.

Yeah, I saw the context too. He's quite the piece of work, as an understatement. One good thing about those "Schaefer: He Says What You Think" bumper stickers that his aides were apparently giving out at some point is that it makes it that much easier to evade people who actually think he's got valid points.

The horrifying parts I didn't realize (I'm not registered on the Post so I didn't read the article) are that this guy is a Democrat, and he's the same Schaefer who was Governor for all those years. Eeek! I don't remember him being nearly such an asshole back then, though I have to admit I wasn't paying very close attention (understatement) at the time.
