Today is Sweetmorn, day 11 in the season of Chaos, 3270

There was a great article in my AAA magazine which talked about how people who write in to them slamming them for writing a good review of a Toyota because it's a foreign car (ranting and raving about how it's a betrayal of the "American" in their name) and insist that they'd never do anything other than "Buy American, damnit" then proceed to drive off the lot in a Chrysler PT Cruiser. The Toyota Camry, Avalon, and the Sienna minivan (as well as a few other models) are built at US assembly plants by American workers, while the PT Cruiser is assembled at the Toluca Assembly Plant in Mexico and is owned by a German company, DaimlerChrysler. Now which one of those puts more money into the US economy? The article doesn't seem to be on their web site, or else I'd link to it; it's way too long to reproduce by hand. The lesson here, kiddies, is that if you're going to try to make a political statement with the make and model of car you buy, it's worthwhile to do a little research. (The woman they quoted at the beginning of the article said she absolutely refused to buy a car made by a German company because her family had suffered at the hands of the Germans during WWII, and then drove away in her brand new Chrysler.)

[Edit: I've gotten rid of the bits relating to my own car ownership experience with crappy Fords and reliable Mazdas, as it was a bit of a tangent from the point of the article because I don't base my car purchasing decisions at all on the country in which they were supposedly manufactured. Yes, I knew (but had forgotten in the midst of my rant, to be honest) that Ford and Mazda were also linked. Yes, I see how this is equivalent to the required spelling mistake in a spelling flame.]

I'm still cranky and generally unpleasant to be around, but this helps:
[livejournal.com profile] cowkitties!

As does this: http://www.subversivecrossstitch.com/ (I want the "Do not F*** with Me" kit, oh yes I do.)
