Oh that first comment - GAWD YES. The need for understanding anxious reactions without validating them - spells out the problem and the reactions needed from those around us so, so well.
Oh, so much this. The friends who can listen to me stress about how "oh god, if I leave the house empty with the dryer/humidifier/whichever appliance running, it will start a fire and kill my cat and burn down my house" and tell me that no, the odds are so astronomically against that happening without also making me feel like I'm the biggest idiot in the world? They are pure gold.
(And I am laughing so hard at the subthread about food going off. I do exactly that too: in my mind, leftovers are good for 24 hours and after that I am extreeeeeeemely skeptical of them.)
