So, today:

One four-hour dental appointment
A discovery that it takes me a fair amount of time to actually get numbed up.
Two root canals
One really unpleasant reaction to most likely the nitrous. Ugh.
And at the end, a bonus: "We probably just didn't want to overwhelm you when we set up the $4800 treatment plan for these two teeth which were the most urgent, but here, have this new treatment plan that involves three more crowns, two fillings, and another $5000 billed entirely to you since your insurance maxed out long ago not far into today's treatment. But you can spread these procedures out." Huzzah.

2 root canals??? Eeeep!!

*hands you ice packs and some lukewarm tea*

Yep, two. Since I have such anxiety about dental work, they wanted to get as much of it as they could (and I could stand) knocked out at once. Conveniently they were both on the same section of my jaw. So far it hasn't really started hurting yet. We'll see how I feel in the morning though.

I've had 2 (at totally different times). I think the first one hurt, but the second one didn't. Then again, I cracked the tooth before the second one was finished, during the time when the innards are removed and they let it heal before putting on the crown, and it ended up being removed. Now *that* hurt.

So far there's been nothing that a couple of Aleve couldn't take care of. (*looks for wood to knock on*)

Next up: four quadrant deep cleaning. I think I'm going to reschedule that though since I don't think I'm up for another multi-hour dental visit quite yet.

I have had 4 of them in the last year-they suck. *hugs*

Good grief! Can you do one a year or so in order to not max your dental? That's awful. They want to do an implant on me and I'm hesitating at $2k. I don't know what I'd do if they gave me a sticker at $4.8!

I have both an implant and a bridge - the implant wasn't covered at all by insurance, the bridge was. If I had to do things over again I'd have 2 implants, even if I had to pay myself. Just a datapoint :-)

Yeah, the implant isn't covered by mine either. They took nearly 6 months getting back to me on that little tid-bit. I was a tad bit annoyed at that.

To spring that on you at the end is a doubly mean trick :( I do hope the two today heal quickly and you can stretch out the remaining work.

Ugh, terrible. I have a tooth that I had a root canal on two years ago that I never capped because they screwed it up. Now it's just an empty mess that needs to be pulled. I cannot afford an implant. Oh, gees. I so sympathize with you.
