Until LJ gets their heads out of their asses and add a setting to opt your journal and comments there out of being shared, please do not repost any comments made in my LJ to Facebook or Twitter. (See the latest post in

news.)

[Edit: A comment over in the news post is pretty much exactly my position too:

I don't mind the option to cross-post to my Facebook, as I often do like my LJ entries posted to my FB account.

However, like about a million other people here, I do NOT want any comments made to my friends-locked entries to appear ANYWHERE on Facebook. (If that is the case, your explanation of the feature is amazingly unclear.)

I may have overlap in my friends lists on both, but my facebook is where it's ok for me to share public stuff. LJ is my lockdown space.

Hmm... I think if you go to account settings, privacy, pingbacks, and set it disabled, it will remove the 'share this' link. Not sure...

I don't care about pingbacks, I have that enabled here. What I'm talking about is the "Repost to Facebook/Twitter" checkboxes.

[Edit:] Pingbacks are just trackbacks, so I don't think that setting will disable the "Repost to" settings. You have to connect your Facebook and Twitter accounts to LJ to crosspost, but once you do that you can repost any of your comments, including comments to locked posts.

So disabling pingbacks (per the instructions in the annoying banner at the top of the page) doesn't work?

How would someone post your friends locked post to twitter? That's impossible. Friends locked or any locked is locked, period end of story.

They can post THEIR COMMENT to twitter, just as they could any time before - with a link back to the LJ post, but if that post is locked, then they can't see it.

Nothing has changed here.

Depending on context, people might be able to figure out the content of the original entry based on the crossposted comment, despite the original entry being locked.

That is a far cry from "I don't want people to repost my LJ stuff to FB".

Unless they quote your locked post in their reply. I'm not turning on crossposting for myself, because if I want to crosspost I'll do it my own damn self, thankyouverymuch, but if commenters have it turned on for their own account, my understanding is that they can repost stuff at will.

The issue for me is more that I don't want a bunch of links back to lj from fb, whether or not the post is flocked.

I'm sure it happens every so often already, but having a handydandy crosspost tickybox makes it more likely to be an all the time thing.

Agreed. I do NOT want to be found via Facebook or Assbook or any other book in between!!! I believe Twitter to be made up of twits and twats, too.

I'm sorry, I don't understand. You are saying that my journal and comments are being shared without me having any way to say don't do that?

That's not what I see on the settings page. I have the option of anything -i- post to be shared to my FB page or Twitter, but I have them turned off (as they are by default).

What am I missing?
