I am so tempted to do this next year.

The challenge: travel ΒΌ of the way around the earth, from London to Mongolia in any crap car that has an engine with no more than 1 ltr of power.
[...]
Our back up team isn't just small, it doesn't exist. If you come on the Mongol Rally, you're relying on yourself. It's an adventure not a petting zoo so we can in no way guarantee your arrival at the destination, or your safety.

Marcos Polo: Our exhaust has property come apart now we sound like a real rally car. Wire + jubilee clips are holding it together ish. Pressing on to petrozavodsk.

Hee!

Someone on #elbows has talked about his brother doing that. I can't remember who, but I suspect some elboid knows more about it.

It might have been. I have no recollection of who, I just remember reading it in the scroll.

Sounds like the reverse of the Peking to Paris "race" re-enactment in 1997. I watched most of that on History International when we still had digital cable, and it was interesting, but it sure looked challenging in places where there weren't real roads. :-)

Is it safe?
No, of course it's not safe. We will be driving through some very remote places in wholly unsuitable cars with no support system.

i'm in. :) man, i'd love to do this in a 2CV or a trabant.

I've seen more remote places... I'd love to try this.

london -> NY? where is the challenge in that? ... oh, i see, that way around. OMG. oh no. not going to happen. that doesn't sound like fun to me, just insane. also, back-breaking. :)

the rickshaw run sounds like fun for people who can not only move when it's hot and humid, but actually race. that would not be me.

(groan)

Tell me about it... blowout on my way to work today. Both front tires had only 4K miles on them, cost $225 each, and are worn completely through on the inside edge (suspension problem).
