My 25-minute commute took me 70 this morning. Thirty-seven minutes to get from 234 business to the bypass (for those of you who don't know I-66 West, that's three miles). Time for some happy-making links to keep from having my head asplode:

Stream The Decemberists' show from the 9:30 at NPR. There's also a whole slew of other shows available at NPR's live concert series.

Companion animals are required to be included in disaster planning at the state and local levels.
The final bill that the President signed contains provisions to help with disaster planning, including:

* requiring that local and state emergency preparedness authorities include plans for pets and service animals in their disaster plans to qualify for grants from FEMA;
* granting FEMA the authority to assist states and local communities in developing disaster plans to accommodate people with pets and service animals;
* authorizing federal funds to help create pet-friendly emergency shelter facilities; and
* allowing FEMA to provide assistance for individuals with pets and service animals, and the animals themselves, following a major disaster.

Rasmussen shows Jim Webb with slight lead over George Allen in the VA Senate race, 48% to 46% (well within the margin of error). When currently undecided voters agree to pick a candidate, Webb leads 51% to 46%.

eMusic

If you'd been thinking of signing up for eMusic, you might want to get in on the action before November 21. According to the email I got this morning, as of that date the number of downloads allowed for new signups for their subscription plans will be decreasing. The Basic plan will allow 30 downloads per month instead of the current 40; Plus will get you 50 downloads rather than 65; Premium gets 75 downloads instead of the current 90.

I use both eMusic and the iTunes store quite happily. eMusic has a smaller catalog overall, but your songs are delivered as DRM-free MP3s.

I'm planning to go to the fundraising rally for Jim Webb with Wesley Clark and Michael J. Fox on Thursday evening; anyone else planning on going?
