Today is Setting Orange, day 12 in the season of Discord, 3270.
I swear, next time I'm just going to torch it all and buy new stuff on the other side (and have it delivered).
This move took five days all told, one day with the help of the wonderful and generous
brian1789,
anotheranon and
curiousangel, all of whom deserve and get huge amounts of gratitude from me. I priced movers, and the low end of the quotes was $850 to move a two-bedroom apartment a mile down the road; the higher end was more like $1300. Since we'd just shelled out ~$5000 in various rents and deposits, that was a little steep. Add to that the fact that we had an additional double garage up the street which hadn't even been touched by Saturday, and movers just weren't in the cards. Next time we move though, I'll pawn stuff if I have to in order to hire professionals to deal with all this stuff for me.
Speaking of stuff, we've only done the barest minimum of unpacking so far. I wanted to get more of the kitchen done last night and so left work actually on time in order to get home before seven. That worked great, right up until the part where I managed to lock myself out of the house at seven -- two hours before C. gets home. For some value of "luckily", I had my car keys in my pocket, but not my purse or my house keys so I took a walk around the neighborhood and then drove around for an hour or so. Unpacking the stuff in the living and dining rooms is going to be like those sliding block puzzles where something has to be moved elsewhere in order to get the piece that's supposed to go in that spot moved in, so I've been putting it off until the weekend. C.'s also pretty incapacitated from all the hauling of heavy boxes and parts and furniture, so moving boxes again isn't high on his priority list I suspect. Now that I'm able to stand up straight without it hurting again, I'm kind of itching to get stuff out of the living room and dining room so we can walk in there. Finding my favorite pair of shoes would just be a side benefit.
I will probably continue to be fairly quiet as fas as LJ is concerned until the cable modem gets purchased and hooked up. I'm alive and functional, I swear, but I'm currently on a limited-hours dial-up, and I'm sure I'll hit my 10 hour limit pretty soon if I try to keep up with the friends list.
