While I was waiting to get confirmation that the dates for my planned visit were okay, the price went up overnight...from $257 to $686.

Heh, I *did* shop around. =) Like I said to wldrose, I totally forgot it was Labor Day weekend and that's why I'm essentially fooked. There are cheaper flights, but they involve leaving SJC at 6:30 AM on Sunday, and I do need to be back home on Sunday evening.
