[livejournal.com profile] quinnclub puts into words what I've been thinking when I see people wanting to make same-sex marriage their single issue at the polls (and he does it much more eloquently, I must say, since my thoughts tend to be the knee-jerk "But...but..but... Jobs! War! Fundies! Nnngghh!!"). Until that joyous day when there is no government involvement in marriage at all, it is a state issue, regardless of how the Doofus in Chief tries to play it for political advantage. While I disagree with Kerry's views on the whether to support a state constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, this would not be the issue that makes me decide to vote or not vote for him.

[Edit: I am not trying to trivialize the issue of same-sex marriage, I think it is important, and I think anyone who wants to get married should be able to. If I'm prioritizing though, I'd put job growth higher on the scale.]

Packing progress: 20 boxes packed so far, 15 of them during the Oscars last night. (I think I enjoyed the commercials, especially the Tiger Woods "Caddyshack" commercial, more than I did most of the awards ceremony to be honest.) We've got 15 boxes of books and some videotapes and some CDs, and it feels like we've barely made a dent in the shelves; I did get one entire bookcase packed, which helps me feel like I'm getting somewhere. God, I hate moving. Well, to be more precise, I hate packing all my stuff up and then unpacking it again. Oh yeah, and schlepping boxes up and down stairs. That reminds me of something I ganked from alt.sysadmin.recovery a while ago for a .sig quote:
Funny, at one point, I was almost completely sure moving was
easy to do, since it was, basically a:
tar cf - $HOME | ssh new_home 'tar xf -'
but I was delusional, as I soon found out. ;)

Ah, if only...

Tonight I'm taking a break from packing up anything other than books to be shipped to [livejournal.com profile] serenejournal, as allergy season seems to have kicked in early this year and I want nothing more than to surgically remove my sinuses. I'll worry about reading the new lease tomorrow when my head is less fuzzy.
